06/11/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The New York Mets are losing their hold on the National League East and will try to rebound tonight when they begin a three-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
New York will face the Dodgers for the first time since sweeping the best-of- five National League division series last season. The Mets also held a 4-3 edge in their season series with LA last year and won two of three at Dodger Stadium.
The Mets lost two of three to Detroit over the weekend to start a nine-game road trip and have lost six of their last seven overall as their lead for first place in the NL East has shrunk to 2 1/2 games over the Braves.
On Sunday against the Mets, David Wright homered in his fourth straight game, a three-run shot and ended 1-for-3 to extend his hit streak to 12 games, but it wasn't enough as the club was blown out by the Tigers, 15-7.
Wright is one game shy of tying the Mets record for consecutive games with a home run. Richard Hidalgo homered in five straight games from July 1-5, 2004.
Carlos Gomez also hit a three-run homer for New York, while Tom Glavine (5-4) had a rough afternoon. The left-hander remains five wins shy of 300 for his career after allowing a career-high tying nine runs and a season-high 11 hits in a season-low 4 1/3 innings.
New York will hope for better pitching tonight from Orlando Hernandez, who will try to continue his excellent recent pitching stretch. Hernandez is just 2-0 over his last five starts despite allowing only three earned runs over that stretch for a 0.82 earned run average.
The right-hander, who is 3-1 with a 1.94 ERA on the season, got a no decision on Wednesday against the Phillies despite pitching six shutout innings. He allowed three hits and four walks over that span in what was an eventual 4-2 loss for the Mets.
Hernandez is 1-1 in three career starts against the Dodgers with a 5.40 ERA.
Randy Wolf will try to get back on track tonight for the Dodgers after having a six-game unbeaten streak stopped last time out. Wolf went 4-0 over that span, but was handed his fourth loss of the season on Wednesday against the Padres. The left-hander yielded five runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in five innings of the 5-2 setback.
Wolf, who is fifth in the National League with 80 strikeouts, has made 24 career starts against the Mets, and is 8-5 against them with a 3.40 earned run average.
The Dodgers also dropped two of three over the weekend against the Blue Jays, including an 11-5 setback on Sunday. Luis Gonzalez had a pair of doubles and three RBI for the Dodgers, who have lost five of their last six to fall 1 1/2 games behind San Diego for first place in the NL West.
Jason Schmidt (1-3) had a poor outing, giving up six runs on nine hits over four-plus innings. The veteran right-hander struck out three and walked a pair as the Dodgers fell to 1-2 on their current nine-game homestand.

MySportsbook.com: NBA Championship Odds
With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The Dallas Mavericks have the best record in the NBA (44-9) and have been absolutely scorching since the second week of the season. What makes the Mavs’ record more impressive is the fact that they dropped their first four games of the season. Currently they have won 17 out of their last 18 and are MySportsbook.com’s favorite (2-1) to win it all. Right behind the Mavs are the Pacific leading Phoenix Suns (39-13). Last season, the Suns lost in the Conference Finals to non-other then the Mavericks four games to two. Of course the Suns were without center Amare Stoudemire who has is averaging 19.9 PPG and 9.5 RPG since coming back from his knee injury. Unlike the Mavs, the Suns have struggled a bit lately having lost their last three and four out of their last seven. Of course the main reason for their three straight loses is due to the absence of two time MVP Steve Nash, who is out with a shoulder injury. Heads-up, the Mavs have beaten the Suns in both of their meetings this season.
In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons. Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4. Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1). The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this. No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
