06/18/2010 - Galloway, NJ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Sherri Steinhauer fired a seven-under 64 Friday to grab a one-stroke lead after the opening round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

Steinhauer, an eight-time winner on the LPGA Tour, shared second place in this event in 2006, the last time it was played.

Natalie Gulbis opened with a 65 on the Bay Course at Dolce Seaview Resort & Spa and she was joined in second place by Tania Elosegui.

Jeong Jang, who finished alongside Steinhauer in second place in 2006, posted a five-under 66. She shares fourth place with Catriona Matthew, Inbee Park, Kris Tamulis and Ai Miyazato.

Steinhauer opened with a pair of pars, then got up and down for birdie on the third. Two holes later, she rolled in a 15-footer for her second birdie.

The 48-year-old missed the fairway at the eighth and that led to a bogey. Steinhauer bounced right back as she rolled in a 30-footer for eagle on the ninth.

Steinhauer moved to minus-four with a 15-foot birdie putt on the 12th. She kicked in a short birdie putt on 15 and made it two in a row with a 25-footer at the 16th.

At the par-five closing hole, Steinhauer came up just short of the green with her second shot. She chipped within eight feet and converted that putt for a closing birdie.

"I didn't touch a club for 14 months so to have a 64 under my belt after not playing golf, it feels real good," said Steinhauer, who missed all of last year with a pair of hip surgeries.

"Being out of competition, you have to learn how to compete again at this level. I need the experience again to be on top."

Gulbis played the back nine first and opened with back-to-back birdies from the 10th. She turned in three-under after a birdie at the 18th.

Around the turn, Gulbis birdied the fourth. She closed with birdies on eight and nine to end one back.

Elosegui birdied the fifth to get into red figures, but gave that shot right back with a bogey on No. 6. After birdies on nine and 10, she poured in three straight birdies from the 13th to jump to five-under.

The Spaniard closed with a birdie on the 18th to share second place.

"I am very happy with the round. My putting was great on the back nine," Elosegui said. "Obviously this round gave me some confidence, so I hope I'm going keep playing the way I played today."

Paula Creamer, who is competing for the first time since surgery on her thumb in April, posted a four-under 67. She was joined in ninth place by Laura Davies, Suzann Pettersen, Brittany Lincicome and eight others.

Fifteen-year-old Alexis Thompson, who is making her professional debut, carded an even-par 71 and is tied for 60th.

NOTES: This event was off the schedule the last three years...Seon Hwa Lee, the 2006 champion, is tied for 31st at minus-two...Adrienne White, one of the players tied for ninth at minus-four, was a Monday qualifier this week.
