Cammalleri stars as Kings crown Sharks

11/03/2007 - San Jose, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Mike Cammalleri recorded a three-point night with a goal and two assists as Los Angeles defeated the San Jose Sharks, 5-2, at HP Pavilion.

Dustin Brown scored twice for the Kings, who have won five of six. Alexander Frolov added two assists, while Jean-Sebastien Aubin was phenomenal between the pipes, making 45 saves.

Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton scored for San Jose, which has dropped three of its last four games. Evgeni Nabokov allowed four goals on 29 shots in the loss.

Los Angeles exploded in the second period, scoring three unanswered goals to go ahead 3-1. On the first tally, an odd-man rush transformed into a mad scramble in front of Nabokov. Cammalleri, positioned near the left corner, corralled the puck, and, from a tough angle, banked it off Nabokov to tie the game at the 1:43 mark.

Kyle McLaren's poor outlet pass led to the second Kings goal. Michal Handzus collected the disc and centered it to rookie Matt Moulson, appearing in his first NHL game after being recalled from Manchester (AHL) to replace Kyle Calder, who was placed on injured reserve before the game. Moulson snapped the puck past Nabokov along the stick side for his first career NHL goal with 5:24 remaining.

Brown finished the scoring outburst at the 18:40 mark when he one-timed a no- look backpass from the trapezoid by Anze Kopitar.

Frolov and Ladislav Nagy opened a 4-1 lead in the third, executing a perfect 2-on-1. Frolov was streaking down the right boards and passed the puck across the ice to Nagy, who buried it in the back of the net at the 6:10 mark.

Thornton made it a two-goal game with 1:13 left, but Brown sealed the victory 17 seconds later with an empty-net tally.

Marleau's persistence paid off in the first, staking San Jose to 1-0 lead on a wrap-around goal with 4:38 left. A Sharks' power play had just expired, but Marleau continued to battle at the side of the cage. He eventually circled behind the net and notched his third goal of the season.

The rubber was flying in the opening frame, as the teams combined for 31 shots, including 21 by San Jose.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.

This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy.  A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
