Bell carried the ball 10 times for 51 yards while replacing Jones under center to run the option. His three scores gave him 13 for the year, setting an Oklahoma record for rushing touchdowns by a freshman quarterback. Charles Thompson had the previous record of 10, which he set in 1987.

Jones completed 16-of-25 passes for 161 yards with an interception for the Sooners (10-3), who have won their last three bowl appearances.

James Vandenberg threw for 216 yards, two touchdowns and an interception on 23-of-44 passing for Iowa (7-6), losers in two straight games to close out the season.

Jordan Canzeri carried the ball 22 times for 58 yards, while Keenan Davis caught five balls for 76 yards in defeat.

Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.

Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.

Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.

With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.
